Halides (X=Cl, Br, I) are naturally present in water, and halide concentrations can be high water sources that impacted by salinity. also wastewater streams from various industrial operations such as pulp paper, oil gas, mining. Drinking guideline limits have been established for halides, removal is important several ways. Chloride concentration more related to salinity, its matters because of adverse health effects, scarcity, corrosion, needs. In drinking treatment, disinfection essential improve quality prevent the spread born pathogens. However, disinfectants produce harmful by-products (DBPs) precursors halides natural organic matter (NOM) source water. Removing before a preferred option increase efficiency avoid forming toxic DBPs. Some industrial-made isotopes radioactive carcinogenic, iodide produces iodinated Bromide it brominated affect AOPs cause active radicals OH. SO4-. transform into less radicals. This paper aims comprehensively review chemistry, interaction DBPs, current regulatory state-of-art technologies available, their challenges.
